A new short (among other things)...
It's been a while since there have been any updates but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy. We shot a new short film, entitled Where Does A Window Cleaner Get His Water?, back at the end of May with cinematographer Cenay Said, produced by Trinamite Pictures. It is currently being edited by Paul Monaghan, who has previously worked with Michael Winterbottom and Mat Whitecross, and we're hoping to have it finished by the end of August.
Toshi has been accepted into the Badalona Film Festival in September. It has also been picked up for international distribution by Shorts International, which is very exciting. Jon is in the process of developing a script for a feature-length version that takes the opening set-up of the short and follows the lead character off in a whole different direction.
In other news, Chris is off shooting The Borrowers for Working Title in South Africa while Jon's first feature as co-writer, The Zig Zag Kid, is currently being filmed in Holland, Belgium and France by director Vincent Bal, starring the legendary Isabella Rossellini. And congratulations to our long-time musical collaborator Nick Jew on the birth of his first child, Amber!

A Win In Bradford
We are very proud to announce that Toshi was awarded a special prize in this year's Shine Award at the Bradford International Film Festival. For the first time, judges decided to give out an award for best performance in recognition of Kentaro Suyama's superb playing of Toshi himself. Jon and Matt were on hand to pick up the award from legendary British filmmaker, Alex Cox. Here's what the judges said:
“This year, for the first time, the Shine Jury wishes to highly commend an actor for his title role performance in Jon Gilbert’s entry, Toshi. Kentaro Suyama is one of those rare actors who can carry and convey pathos, not just in his lines, but in his face. A Japanese Buster Keaton, in a lot of ways. This beautifully understated performance, as the put-upon and desperately lonely Toshi’s world crumbles around him, impressed us all. The beauty is that, as the film ends, Toshi finds that perhaps there is (after all) hope. We all look forward to seeing more of Mr Suyama’s work in the future.”
Congratulations to the whole team - and in particular thanks to Robin O'Donoghue and Pinewood Studios for sponsoring our promotion at the festival.
